HEALING
“I do not at all understand the mystery of grace — only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us."
- Annie Lamott
What is Healing?
It’s not merely the absence of disease. The word heal comes from the Old English “hale,” as in the old expression: “hale and hearty.” The word “hale” means “whole.” To be “hale and hearty” then was to be whole and full of courage, full of heart. A complete human. A human that can love. So to “heal” in its oldest sense is to be made whole, to restore the capacity to love: oneself, others, the natural world. And that’s something that we must do for ourselves; no one can do it for us. No one can cause us to become whole, yet we never do it entirely alone.
We are wired for community, for company, for relationship.
Even the most diehard introverts among us need other people sometimes. Our psyches need to grieve with others, pray with others, celebrate with others, play with others. We are designed to share both our blessings and our burdens.
I do not call myself a healer.
I have that capacity, the capacity to “make whole” for only one person in the world: me. And I work on that every day. Some days I’m successful at it and some days I’m not. But every day, I try to treat myself with kindness and respect; knowing that I’m trying to do my best in every moment. When I need help or another perspective, I look for someone I trust who has the skills I need.
Sometimes people need help in their process of healing themselves.
I use my skills to remind people how to re-create the balance that their body, their mind, their spirit knows to be its birthright. You’re not “broken;” you don’t need to be “fixed.” You need to remember. That’s what I have passion for. I have an insatiable curiosity about what it is to be human: physically, emotionally, mentally , energetically, and spiritually. I don’t have all the answers, but I have plenty of questions. And sometimes, the right question will unlock a powerful change. I have skills that can help you back on the road to helping yourself, knowing yourself, loving yourself.
I use a technique that I have studied, used, written about for over thirty years: Energy Kinesiology.
(Click here for the Massage Magazine article from 2014.) It’s also referred to as muscle testing, energy testing, muscle checking, muscle monitoring… It’s a powerful way for your body to speak for itself, give its preferences, and describe its best pathway back to health. YOU direct our work together. YOU provide all the information. YOU are your best, your only, healer. I hold the space for you to relax into the process and I “translate” between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind: your body. The story your body tells describes its most potent route back to balance.
If you aspire to be "whole and full of heart," are committed to that goal, and are willing to maintain responsibility for your journey, I would consider it an honor to be included in that process. Let’s find out what we can do together.
